Icelanders have rejected the latest plan to repay the UK and Netherlands for costs incurred when the country's banking system collapsed. We should stop running away from radiation
More than 10,000 people have died in the Japanese tsunami and the survivors are cold and hungry. But the media concentrate on nuclear radiation from which no-one has died - and is unlikely to. As before, deaths per TWh by energy sources, nicely visualised. Just to hammer that home.
Deaths per TWh for all energy sources
Rooftop solar power "more dangerous than Chernobyl". Personally, I wish people were less trigger-happy when it comes to demonising anything related to nuclear power. Here's another nice article, entitled "Fukushima is a triumph for nuke power: Build more reactors now!" Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people. Most American adults wake around 6 ot 7 in the morning. Get to work at 8 or 9. Knock off around 5. Home again, 6-ish. Fifty weeks a year. For about 45 years.
What class are you struggling with?
CurveCP implementation released!
The first CurveCP implementation, incorporated into the Networking and Cryptography library (NaCl), entered public alpha testing on 21 February 2011. CurveCP software isn't ready for users yet but is ready for experimentation and development by interested programmers. Ragel compiles executable finite state machines from regular languages. This release includes a rewrite of the GUI library, amongst other things. Pretty nice.

New theories reveal the nature of numbers
A key creative breakthrough occurred when Emory mathematicians Ken Ono, left, and Zach Kent were hiking. As they walked, they noticed patterns in clumps of trees and began thinking about what it would be like to "walk" amid partition numbers.

Unencrypted public wifi should die
"Unencrypted public access wireless networks are an unbelievably harmful technology devised with no regard for the operation of the modern web - and they tend to introduce far more problems than immediately apparent."
